Linguu Privacy Notice
Last updated: 25 September 2026
Linguu helps you capture words and phrases, turn them into learning cards, and practice them. This notice explains what the web and iOS apps store and when information leaves your device.
Information Linguu stores
- Your account identifier, username, email address, interface language, and learning-language settings.
- Your cards, translations, examples, notes, categories, imported vocabulary, and optional source links.
- Your Study Deck membership, review schedule, answers, and progress statistics.
- Your capture preferences and the device-session information needed to keep your account signed in and let you revoke sessions.
- Operational logs, including network and request metadata, used to secure and maintain the service.
Capture and translation
The Share extension saves captured text in the Linguu App Group on your device. Surrounding context and the source link are excluded by default and are stored only when you enable them for that capture or in your capture defaults. Pending captures stay on the device until you finish, discard, or remove them with the app.
Apple Translation runs through Apple's on-device translation framework. Linguu does not send that text to a Linguu translation provider. When you choose Enhance with AI, Linguu prepares a prompt and opens the iOS share sheet. Nothing is sent to an external AI app until you choose one. The selected provider then handles that information under its own terms and privacy policy.
How Linguu uses information
Linguu uses this information to provide account access, synchronize your cards, prevent duplicate changes, schedule practice, show progress, recover interrupted work, and protect the service. Linguu does not sell personal information, display advertising, or use your data to track you across other companies' apps and websites.
Sharing and visibility
Personal cards are private by default. A card appears in the shared Library only when it is deliberately published. Linguu may rely on infrastructure providers to host the application, database, email delivery, and backups; they process data only to operate those services. User-initiated sharing to another app is controlled by that app after you select it.
Retention and your choices
Account data is retained while your account is active. You can prepare an export or permanently delete your account from the iOS Account screen. Deletion removes your private cards, language settings, study progress, and sessions. Content deliberately published to the Library may remain after its creator identity is removed so existing learners do not lose shared material. Security and operational records may remain in service logs and backups after account deletion until those systems age out or are replaced.
Web cookies and security
The web app uses essential cookies for sign-in, session continuity, and request protection. Linguu uses encrypted HTTPS connections and stores iOS session credentials in the system Keychain. No security measure eliminates every risk, so please use a unique password and sign out unfamiliar devices.
Questions
